It is quite common for US small businesses (such as ours) to complain about how much assistance “big” companies get, while “the little guy is forgotten”. Though there may be some truth to that, it is important to note that there are a great many grants and technical assistance programs that assist small businesses. The problem is that small businesses often do not have the wherewithal to find them and to avail themselves of the opportunities presented by these programs. That is where Vertical Optimization comes in.
The key is to find these grants and to be able to utilize them for small business development. Typically, most small business owners do not have the time or wherewithal to dig through thousands of pages of Federal regulations to identify grant opportunities. Vertical Optimization works with many government agencies to expose small businesses to opportunities that are available to them.
For instance, there are grants that cover travel for small businesses as part of their international business development efforts. There are thousands of grants and incentives for hiring in certain sectors, technology development, business expansion, etc. etc. These grants represent billions of dollars in assistance to assist small businesses. There are many local, state and federal programs that subsidize the business development costs for small businesses. It is typically the case that some of these grants are often targeted to specific sectors. However, most businesses in those sectors do not even know of the existence of many of these programs. The amount of writing and documentation required to access these grants is yet another obstacle to small business participation.
